Steve began his farming career in 1991 in his home state of Wisconsin, continued in California and arrived in Maine in 1999 as a MOFGA apprentice. In 2000 he started work on New Leaf Farm, Durham, Maine. His responsibilities expanded to manage field crops, harvest and deliver produce, fieldwork, and tractor work and run the farm crew. This is where Steve met Magnolia’s (his daughter) mother. Steve slowly added livestock to New Leaf’s operation. In 2007 he decided to buy his own farm and go at it on his own. Steve purchased the 70 acres in 2008 and in 2009 Old Crow Ranch was born.
Seren Huus Sinisi
Seren is the “johnny-come-lately” to the party called work here at Old Crow Ranch. But she wasn’t so late that she missed the house build of 2011! Seren, a Maine girl through and through, transplanted herself from her city of Portland to live with Steve and Magnolia in the country. You can take the girl out of Portland but many of her jobs and friends remain there. Luckily, it’s only a 30 minute drive to work at Merrill Auditorium or Cross Insurance Arena where she works as an IATSE Local 114 Stagehand.
Seren comes from a family business, frying seafood at fairs and festivals around Maine and is no stranger to working hard.
Magnolia attends Maine Coast Waldorf School and splits her time between Old Crow and her mom’s house in Freeport. She’s a creative artist and enjoys helping dad with daily chores.
Miss V joined our family February 5, 2014.
In early December 2011, Red joined our family at eight weeks old. He’s an Australian Cattle Dog. Steve’s training him up to help herd the pigs and cows. He’s too smart for his own good and can’t seem to hold his bark in, even when he knows he should.
